My 2009 Ohio Buck
First I want to thank the Lord for giving me the opportunity to do what I do and then still bless me with an animal like this. It’s very humbling. He definitely guided that arrow for me because it wasn’t the best “form” shot I have ever made.
Well, Saturday morning November 7th was exciting to say the least. This guy was tearing stuff up that morning. At about 7:10 a.m. he first chased a doe into the field to my right and behind me then cut directly behind the stand (DOWN WIND!) and went into the standing corn field. When he did that I thought well great, he’s gonna smell me and that might be the end of it. Well he apparently didn’t smell me or just as most bucks do this time of year, he only had one thing on his mind and didn’t really care that I was there 25 foot up a tree. Anyways, a few minutes later I heard two bucks lock up inside the corn for just a bit; then it all fell silent. 3-4 more minutes passed then I heard this guy still in the corn grunting and pushing does all over the place, breaking corn stalks and just causing an absolute racket. The whole time this was going on the same doe he chased into the field in front of me was keeping an eye on that corn field. Well, it got quiet for just another minute when all of the sudden this guy busts out of the corn grunting his head off with corn stalks stuck in his horns! As soon as saw him I was trying to get him stopped; I started with the usually ill replicated “human grunt” and eventually made my way up to a loud HEY!!. Well, he never stopped and trotted down the access road right under me at about 8 yards. Big Mistake! The arrow caught him at the last rib and came out right behind his left shoulder. I saw him go down just inside the woods on the other side of the green field about 50 yards from me. The next challenge I faced was how to get of the stand before I hyperventilated and passed out, because let me tell you, I wasn’t far from it! Anywho, here he is...he ended up grossing 153 7/8”. Gotta Love BOWHUNTING!....and Ohio! |
